The meeting between TJ and Tommy during the blizzard is an effective way to pull the reader into the story. Discovering that the stranger sharing TJ’s face is actually his identical twin immediately raises questions about how the brothers were separated and what else has been hidden from them. I especially liked how the family mystery gradually expands into something much larger. The altered ledgers, the generational connection between the twins, and the sweat-lodge visions give the story a sense that the past is actively reaching into the present. Then the discovery of the underground world and the enormous heart stone raises the stakes considerably.
